Eurodesk Iceland: let's bring positive societal change
|
|
Eurodesk Iceland is highlighting the "Hitt Húsið’s" Edible Community Garden project supported by the European Solidarity Corps which aims to promote sustainable development, social inclusion and equal opportunities. The project, implemented in different stages, aims to create opportunities for young people with diverse disabilities to learn, grow and develop as people and active participants in society. Starting from a woodworking phase where participants designed, prepared, and built their upcycled gardening boxes, it moved to the other phases focused on preparing the gardening boxes, choosing crops to grow and planting the crops and taking care of them by watering them and keeping them clean and safe from weed. The project concluded with the Harvest Festival celebrating the activities of all participants. The project aimed to bring positive societal change, allowing others to see that everyone is a valued participant in society and has something to give to it if only they are given the chance to participate as active citizens.
